I coach communities of practice, their leaders, and their sponsors with an emphasis on stewarding technologies and designing learning events.  Learning Alliances is the name I chose for my business because it implies that purposeful alignment between people and that learning requires commitments to collaborate and produce meaning together.  For me to help you with your community or community project, we need to negotiate an alliance to learn with and from each other.

I’m a member and leader of CPsquare, the community of practice on communities of practice. I wrote Digital Habitats with Etienne Wenger and Nancy White.  I host Com-Prac, the longest running conversation on communities of practice on the ‘Net.  I’ve been working with Etienne Wenger and Bronwyn Stuckey for many years to offer the “Foundations of Communities of Practice” workshop. Articles that I’ve written (or talks I’ve given) on communities of practice and technology are here.

I’m trained in dialog, evaluation, and data analysis. I worked at the University of Colorado as a planner, institutional researcher, administrator, and technologist. I received a Bachelor’s degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD and a master’s degree in planning and architecture from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. I grew up in Humacao, Puerto Rico.

I’m a certified meditation instructor at the Portland Shambhala Meditation Center.
